Appiano
Eppan (Italian: Appiano sulla Strada del Vino) is a comune (municipality) in the province of Bolzano-Bozen in the Italian region of Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, located about 45 km northeast of the city of Trento and about 8 km southwest of the city of Bolzano. As of 28 February 2009, it had a population of 13,896 and an area of 59.7 km². According to the 2001 census, 87.16% of the population speak German, 12.47% Italian, and 0.37% Ladin as first language. The municipality of Eppan (Appiano) contains the frazioni (subdivisions, mainly villages and hamlets) Frangart (Frangarto), Girlan (Cornaiano), Missian (Missiano), Montiggl (Monticolo), Perdonig (Predonico), St. Michael (San Michele), St. Pauls (San Paolo), Unterrain (Riva di Sotto). Eppan (Appiano) borders the following municipalities: Andrian (Andriano), Bolzano, Kaltern (Caldaro), Nals (Nalles), Terlan (Terlano), Unsere Liebe Frau-St. Felix (Senale-San Felice), Vadena, Cavareno, Fondo, Malosco, Sarnonico, and Ronzone.
